To run is to be free, to explore with head and heart, eyes facing forward. A 300 mile Cornish adventure, the sea as my witness.
Kernow 300 is a personal challenge, an endurance journey on home turf. Wanting to skirt its beautiful periphery, from the 4th October I will run around Cornwall to complete the 300 miles of undulating coastal trail. Starting on the north coast Devon/Cornwall border, I'll follow the famed South West Coast Path around Land's End and finish on its south coast equivalent.
Running and Cornwall have become me, trainers, as comforting as sheepskin slippers. I want to celebrate this whilst seeing where the adventure will take me, besides Plymouth. I will be raising money for A Mile in Her Shoes, a London based charity that uses running to aid the re-socialising of women recovering from homelessness. I hope to help in a small way and continue on returning to London by giving them my time.
2015 sees 50 years since the South West Coastal path came into being, a celebration of the beauty of Cornwall. As a child I stomped along it, ahead of my parents, wanting to get there first. As a teenager, I begrudgingly ran its path, to shake off the weekend. As a young adult, I forgot about it. Now it's endeared me back home.
As the sea and the beaches are so important to me and my lifestyle as a surfer and beach-user, I will also be trying to do my bit with a daily #2minutebeachclean (locations marked on the below map). Get involved next time you're seaside bound.
